Recovering Part 1

I'm assuming that I'll write more about recovering as I continue to recover, which is why I titled this "part 1".

So far, so good. The first three days were pretty horrific. Even though my friends who have had the same procedure assured me there wouldn't be too much pain, I had A LOT of pain once I got home from the hospital. My entire abdomen felt like it was on fire and in labor - having a hard contraction that would not end. I medicated and slept as much as possible for the first 24 hours. It was hard. My family was having fun and I was stuck in bed, in pain.

Some things I've learned after having abdominal surgery - don't cough, laugh or sneeze. Ever. Coughing is the worst, it hurts, a lot. Another thing, healing comes quickly. My drain levels went down very very fast. I could have had them out on the 4th and 5th day due to the low levels but they usually are in for at least a week, so I had them out on the 6th & 7th day after surgery. Life is much better without them.

While I still cannot stand up straight, I can stand up much more straight then I could when I got home. Almost all of the pain is gone with the exception of an occasional zinger of pain or burning if I move a little too quickly (which is still quite slow) and I still feel a lot of pressure and tightness.

I can't wait until I am fully healed, standing up straight, with the swelling gone. It is so nice to see my stomach look like it's supposed to look and not like some distorted version of itself.

Tight binders for at least two more weeks and then some lighter binders to ease myself back into regular life. Yay, yay.
