This is completely out of order. Jill's birthday was weeks ago but I haven't pulled those pics and edited them to post yet (not like my editing skills are great or anything, the pics just need to be touched up a bit).
Playgroup was conveniently at my house this week which made it super easy to have a birthday party for Emily. No real invitations needed, the kids were already going to be showing up at my house and the regular group kids would even bring their own packed lunch! Super!
Emily wanted yellow cupcakes this year, yellow like the smiling sun and like her bright and happy personality. When we sat down to sing happy birthday, those 3 & 4 year olds really belted it out! I wish I had video'd it so everyone could hear just how excited they all were for Em to blow out the candles.
My genius idea this year was instead of doing goodie bags I would just buy that $20 helium balloon kit that you can get just about anywhere and the kids could all go home with a balloon and also a little pack of silly bands (not pictured).
The kids LOVED the balloons. It was totally worth it. For the party they just played like they usually do, we had lunch, cleaned up, sang happy birthday, had cupcakes, blew up balloons, played some more and then the mom's showed up and everyone went home.
Emily is so happy she was able to have such a fun, big party. Today is not her real birthday, when that day roles around I'm sure we'll have lunch at McDonald's in party hats like last year and then open a few family presents.
There are 4 years in between Jillian and Emily. Those were 4 agonizing and trial filled years that changed my life forever. I remember when we were finally in a position to be having more children and I was finally pregnant again how happy and relieved I was. That happiness was short lived when I miscarried at only 8 weeks pregnant. After my tears dried up and I vented all my frustration and waited 6 weeks per doctors orders we tried again and the pregnancy stuck and 8 1/2 months later little Emily was born into this world. We called her Genevieve in utero, it was weird to look at her after she was born and not know what to call her because there was no way I was calling her Genevieve from Barbie and the 12 Dancing Princesses! Only hours before we left the hospital we decided on Emily Jane.
I feel lucky to have her every day. She is my eternal optimist, always happy, always able to make a sad situation happy, always ready to tell me "it's ok mom" or "it was just an accident" (as if I should just let everything roll off my back) with a sweet smile on her face. She is moving moving moving ALL the time. I wish I had some of her energy, oh the things I could accomplish. Happy Birthday (in a few days) my sweet little girl.
